Site-specific light, sound, and dance exploring mobility

A dance piece that unfurls within a shower of precisely controlled multicolor LED light.

The artists select a number of characteristic sceneries of each region in which their performance takes place, and recreate those scenes on the stage by way of "colors". In a space covered by a variety of colors, five dancers respond to this changing color environment in exquisitely acrobatic performances based around contact improvisation.Just like the visual elements, the acoustic accompaniment consists of "sounds" recorded in the respective region of each performance as well, making each performance absolutely unique. By integrating sounds and lights representing the respective locations of performances, the ever-transforming piece traces the process of picking up knowledge and experience in everyday life.

Mobility

Dance is a form of artistic expression with few restrictions, as a light source, a body, and a space to move in are the only prerequisites for staging a performance. In other words, it is at once an art form with a high degree of mobility. By adopting portable computers compatible with various media, and full-color LEDs that can instantaneously produce any color for the choreography of dance in this piece, the artists managed to create a multilayered dance piece without impairing the aspect of mobility. This quality is further radicalized through the piece's production style integrating environmental sounds and colors of each performance's location.
