Yasuomi IBARAKI

Professor, Division of Agricultural Sciences, Graduate School of Sciences and Technology for Innovation, Yamaguchi University
Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Yamaguchi University
Associate Member, Science Council of Japan
Dr. Yasuomi Ibaraki received his B.S. (1988) and Ph.D. (1996) in Agricultural Science from the University of Tokyo. He began his academic career as an Assistant Professor at the University of Tokyo in 1992, before joining Yamaguchi University as an Associate Professor in 2000. He was promoted to Professor in 2010 and has served as Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture since 2024.
His research specializes in Agricultural Engineering, Agricultural Meteorology, and Bio-Environmental Information Engineering. Dr. Ibaraki’s work focuses on understanding the interactions between plants and meteorological (environmental) factors and applying these insights to improve plant production. In particular, his research aims to establish optimal growth environments in controlled plant production systems—such as plant tissue culture, greenhouse horticulture, and plant factories (vertical farms)—through the acquisition and utilization of plant-derived information, including indicators of plant health and physiological status. Recently, he has been advancing research on AI-based image analysis technologies for plant growth diagnosis.
