The Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media (YCAM) was established in November 2003 as a cultural-arts complex that accommodates a hall for stage performances, an exhibition space, a mini film theatre, and the Yamaguchi City Library. A platform for sharing computer- and IT-based media technology, YCAM hosts among others a variety of theatre and dance performances, art exhibitions, film screenings, sound-related events, workshops and lectures.
YCAM distinguishes itself through being not only a venue for presentations of existing outstanding works, but also a studio in which new, original artworks are produced and unveiled in front of the public. All kinds of artists stay in Yamaguchi, where in collaboration with YCAM's expert staff they explore the possibilities of creative work. Many of the artworks created at the "YCAM InterLab", the Center's section for artistic production, have been highly valued not only here in Japan, and received countless invitations to be part of exhibitions and performing art events in cities around the globe.
Great importance we are placing also on educational activities. YCAM puts together its own gallery tours and workshop programs, the idea behind which is to provide the citizens of Yamaguchi with a place where they can form their own thoughts about art and technology, and nurture their media literacy and imagination.
The aim of YCAM, a bridge between the local neighborhood of Yamaguchi and the world, is to function as a stage for a variety of individuals to meet and exchange, and as a base for the creation and launch of new information technologies. We are looking forward to welcoming you at YCAM, and inviting you to share with us the formation of new artistic values.
