In its function as a hub for local information, the Yamaguchi City Central Library is taking care of basic library services in a very "Yamaguchi" kind of way. A "bright and pleasant", and "intimate and convenient" institution open and helpful to all citizens, the library aims to make people feel like coming back by stocking next to books and magazines also videos, CDs, DVDs and other material. While supporting learning and cultural activities, the library creates through lectures and other events opportunities for exchange among citizens.
Visitors to the library can use a total of 200 carrels, and a variety of specialized departments arranged around the central book shelves, such as a newspaper and magazine corner, a music and video corner, a children's corner and a regional reference material corner. The library's wide range of facilities further include a recital service room, a recording room, a retrieval room, a volunteers' room, and a book storeroom open to the general public. Visitors can also use one of twelve computer terminals to find certain titles from the library's holdings, or one of seven other computers for research using the Internet or CD-ROMs.
Data of the library's holdings are publicly accessible via a network connection, and visitors who bring their own laptop computer to do research in the facility can do so by connecting to information outlets.
